GI Bill OK for MY dad, says Cornyn, but not today’s vets. Cornyn votes NO on supporting trrops

May 23, 2008

Perhaps the saddest part of Sen. John Cornyn’s speech on the Senate floor was his speaking of U.S. “success in our current efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan“.  However, the most ludicrous was the retention argument, being peddled as well by McCain/Bush, saying giving the current vets the same privileges as WWII vets is bad by “encouraging early exit from the military and hurting retention“.
Cornyn’s Democratic challenger Rick Noriega, an Iraq veteran, attacked Cornyn, who did not serve in Vietnam, as not supporting the troops.  The following is from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Cornyn’s Democratic challenger, state Rep. Rick Noriega, framed Cornyn’s opposition to the domestic spending as a slap in the face of veterans.

“If that GI Bill was good enough for the Greatest Generation, why is it not good enough for the latest generation?” Noriega asked at a news conference at Dallas City Hall.

When it comes times for no-bid contracts for Halliburton  or billions of dollars in cash that disappear from the hands of U.S. contractors, there is no problem.  When it comes time to pay outrageous fees to Blackwater, it seems to be Cornyn’s patriotic duty.
When it comes time to send troops into harm’s way based on lies and petty politics, Cornyn is in lockstep with Bush/McCain.
When it comes time to really support the troops, Cornyn and his Bush allies have a horrid record.  Returning vets given spotty medical care in rundown hospitals, reducing the number of cases of post traumatic stress disorder by simply not diagnosing the condition as that and a corrupt supply line that has actually led to the deaths of U.S. troops are the legacy of Bush’s brownshirt supporters such as Cornyn.
Remember, this is the man who wraps himself in the flag while, at the same time, says he “understands” why someone would murder an “activist judge.”

“Katrina” Bush lectures Myanmar on disaster response by derDunkelRover — Revver Online Video Sharing Network

Boy George “Katrina” Bush never misses a chance to use his stick and stick diplomacy.

from revver.com posted with vodpod

The video is of a bill signing. It honors the opposition leader under house arrest by the Myanmar regime. Bush stubbornly refuses to call the country by the name picked by the military rulers, preferring “Burma”. He wants us to believe it’s part of his clever diplomacy – ignore them and they will go away. However, it probably has more to do with him trying to pronounce Myanmar.
At one point, he slaps the ruling junta of Myanmar in the face; then, he says, “let’s be friends”. Then, he says you’re scum, but we want to help.
Let’s see I am the leader of a country, and I am not very liked in the world. What do I do when I have a disaster and all these people are offering help? I refuse much of the help without comment. I refuse food, even though people need food, and plan to pay to store it in warehouses until I can ship it out of country. I refuse visas for people who want to bring in medical and disaster relief.
“I” am Boy George Bush. His “Burmese” counterparts are acting much in the same way he did – too little to late and even then not nearly enough.
Heckuva job, Bush!
